Your Marketing To The World

I did not write most of this, that credit would go to Kathryn Esther Clement of The Kings Daughters. I have spent the most time of my teaching at Bible studys and with women about this very subject: Your Identity.

Most of us get and keep our identity from the world: what mom and dad said, what our siblings said, what our teachers said or the school bullys. We take that into adult life with what does our boss say or how do they treat us. We get our self-worth from the most interesting places, but the whole world is going around on the same merry go round.

I have tried and tried to get people to understand that their self-worth comes from God Himself. He was the one who created you from a single cell. He designed your eye color, your hair color, your voice, your everything about you and He created you because He wanted you exactly like you are – perfect to Him.

Some of you sneered up your nose at that last thought because you do not like much about yourself. He created you, thought of you before your were even born. He adores you, He talks about you in heaven….I mean if there is a fridge in heaven, your picture will be plastered all over it!

When I read the following below and it might seem “harsh” but it is so true and I have said it the same way before, the way you portray yourself to the world is how the world will treat you. Your dress, makeup and manners are what you are presenting to the world as “you.” I believe that the very first blog I wrote or one of them was on – How you present yourself to the world, your marketing, way back in 2015.

It has not changed, if anything the world has lolled us into more sexual and sensual dress and in some cases – even the other way where pajamas are now “normal” wear outside of the house. I know bosses who have interviewed potential job applicants who came in for the job in their pajamas. For one, if you cannot make the effort to get dressed, what kind of worker do you think the boss will assume you are? If a guy comes in for an interview with a muscle shirt, shorts and flip flops for a business like setting, you probably are not getting the job.

I was at a national conference with quite a few co-workers and we were all getting many samples and gifts, it was awesome. One early twenty-something fellow was getting no samples, people were not willing to talk to him. This guy was brilliant, he went on to become a Naturopath. He had a fairly large nose ring, one of those bull type ones. Another lady who had many piercings quietly told him to try an experiment, take out the nose ring and try again tomorrow. Made all the difference, people now took him seriously. Your image matters.

“I don’t have a problem with ladies showing their cleavages. I don’t lose sleep over seeing body parts out in public. I am not on a mission to police women’s clothing.

Here’s where I draw the line, when you get angry at being addressed the same way you have presented yourself.

The way you dress is a silent statement. It speaks before you open your mouth. It tells the world how to see you, how to treat you and how to approach you. It speaks about how you see yourself.

You cannot come out looking like an invitation and expect everyone to treat you like a locked gate. You cannot present your body as public property and get offended when people forget it is sacred.

Your clothing is your identity. The way you carry your body says a lot about how you see yourself.

When you know who you are, you dress with purpose and not just for attention. People who know their worth do not need to beg for validation with their body.

Royalty does not go around naked. Royalty knows “I am not just for show, I am for impact.”

Queens and Kings do not expose themselves for approval. They carry themselves with quiet confidence, knowing full well that the right eyes will see them, not just the loud ones.

You dress for where you are going not where you have been. You dress for the throne not the street.

This is not about judgement, it is about waking up to who God, your Creator says you are. If you do not know your worth and your identity, the world will happily tell you and give you the cheap version.

Until you know the weight of your presence, you will keep reducing it to skin-deep impressions.

Let your clothes speak purpose. There is a reason women swoon over a well dressed man, a man in uniform, there is a sense of solid purpose in their image.

Cloth your body in dignity not desperation. Let your image reflect your identity not your insecurity.

I remember being in a crowd of over 5,000 women at an international event. There were these women who stood out in the crowd. Beautiful, regal women. I knew they were held in very high esteem by God and by themselves. It turns out these lovely ladies were from Africa and they came from not well to do means. The villages pooled together to fund raise money to get these ladies to the conference. Their demeanor and dress made them the most outstanding women there. They did not come from money. They did not come as more popular. They came dressed as daughters of the King and they presented themselves as such. Anyone in the crowd could tell these ladies were royalty. It was such a beautiful thing to watch. They knew whose they were and walked and dressed accordingly. It has spoken to me much over the years.

Because remember: You are not just for show, You are for purpose, His purpose.
