Start The Year With A Challenge: Your Nose
I am truly excited about this to the point I have been trying it myself for a few weeks. Can I say it is working? I am not sure yet but I have nothing to loose, neither do you so read on to find out more… I was challenged a few years ago to do something that seemed so easy but naturally kind of silly. The challenge was part of a bigger picture about: is God a God of encounter? That is does He like to share in our experiences and can we share ours with Him? Hear me out becaus

How to Close A Year
We are technically in December for the last day and the theme this month has been Hebrew word translation. I cannot decide on a word! So here are a couple: Good morning- Boker tov Good evening - Erev tov Thank you - Toda Please/ your welcome - Bevakasha Yes - Ken No - Lo Often at the close of the year we get reflective on what we did or did not accomplish in the past year. This mental list we carry around with us is totally at the whims of us. Yet when it does not happen we

My Christmas Blog - Reflecting The Past Year
God was silent for 400 years between the Old and New Testament period, perhaps some of you feel He is silent today. He is not, but you are not so sure as you look at your life or the world around you. In the time period before Jesus was born the Israelites were in despair thinking God had forgotten them. The first time He spoke again it was about babies. Yes babies! The priest in the temple at that time, Zechariah, received a message from an angel while he was in the temple b

Emmanuel
This month we have been looking at the meaning of Hebrew words. For the Christmas season we simply must look at the word Emmanuel . We have looked at Hesad : love in action, or love came down with the birth of baby Jesus. Mishkan , the dwelling, we are the dwelling place of Gods Holy Spirit. Today we will look at Emmanuel . Spelled in two ways, Immanuel or Emmanuel the direct translation is noted in the Bible as “God with us” taken from Isaiah 7:14. It is made up of two word

Mishkan - The Dwelling
Thinking of last weeks blog and the difficulty of language translation, here is another Hebrew word to ponder this Christmas season. Mishkan . We go to God in prayer with many requests, concerns and questions. In the Old Testament the Hebrew people went to the Tent or Tabernacle to pray. As they wandered around the desert for 40 years they carried this special tent with them. Settling from place to place they set the Tabernacle tent up in the middle of their own camp. Here is

Hesed
There is an art to translating languages. I mean how do you translate a word that is not even in another languages’ vocabulary? That is difficult, you need a mind that can think outside the box. This is why some of the prophecy’s in the Bible seem odd to us. It is easy to dismiss them because they do not make sense to us. But what if we read them from the perspective that the writer was trying to describe something they had never seen before. Imagine it! Let’s do a mental exe

Trust Issues
This picture of the door with the peephole was a true giggle. To be honest I had to study the door for at least 10 seconds to find out why ordering this peephole was silly. I felt quite sheepish after I recognized the reason. It was so obvious. The same night I started a chat with God. Me: you know God sometimes I can’t figure You out… Snort, laugh as I get the lightbulb turned on in my head… Me: okay, I guess I never actually figure You out… That was the end of the conversat

Scotland Part 3
2 Thrones at Stirling Castle This was interesting, these 2 thrones sit at the head of a huge room called the great room in Stirling castle. There is a 12” step up to go up to the level the thrones are on, elevating them above the people. The great room is huge, with 4 fire places and a 30 foot ceiling. A room capable of holding 100-200 people. Of course the king and queen occupy these thrones for the entire time feasting is being held in the great room. If either the king or

Scotland Part 2
Inverness and the River Ness As I headed to the train from Inverness to Glasgow I marvelled at Scotlands forward thinking in transport. So it was a very real surprise that as I headed to the train platform a bus was sitting there waiting. Apparently they were working on the tracks part of the way so we would spend 1 1/2 hours on a bus and then board a train for another 1 1/2 hours. I guess it does not happen that often but I got to do both bus and train that day. Word to the

Back From Scotland
The journey is over, I have seen, walked, climbed, and explored Scotland and now I am home. I am truly thankful I got to go but am so very thankful to be home. I was not even sure if I could write about my journey and travel adventures because where do you start? Scotland. A land rich in history, the countryside is glorious and the towns and cities filled with gorgeous old buildings and enough tales to keep you entertained for a long while. I heard about King James… a lot of
