Wind Resistance

The seedlings are growing and yet they sit here on my kitchen table. One day I walked them all out to the greenhouse but our nights are too cold. I have 2 heat lamps but they made it too hot over them. Talk about a Goldilocks syndrome. Where is just right?

We have had a fair amount of windy days and I realized that no matter how I babied these plants one day of our winds and they are goners. Enter the fan and resistance.

Daily now I blow a fan over my plants to strengthen them. To my amazement they are much healthier and growing better since the wind has come upon them. Their stocks have strengthened and they sit more upright.

People and muscles all grow best in some resistance. Notice I said resistance and in our analogy of wind we are talking about wind that is from a breeze to the kind that can blow your hair back. Not talking here of gale force winds, or hurricanes, or those winds that slam your house and everything around it, those kind are not conducive to growth. Those kind flatten everything around them.

If I put my plants out in one of our Peace Country windy days, I will loose them unless they have been used to some wind.

How is it for you when you walk against the wind? It is not pleasant, I came out of a place last weekend where the wind was picking up the sand and gravel of a parking lot and pelting you on your way to the car. The scene was a mini sand storm. That wind caused me to hunch down, lean forward averting my face and push my body forward against the wind. It takes work and is not pleasant or easy walking.

The next day was calm, both days the sun was out but one was tough walking and one was calm and easy.

The word used for the Holy Spirit in Hebrew is “ruach”, translated as wind, spirit, or breath. HaKodesh means Holy. Ruach HaKodesh: Spirit of Holy. Elohim is translated as God: Ruach Elohim means the Spirit of God.

Interesting that the word spirit can mean wind. In our walking with God we learn to walk in all stages of wind. Calm, breezy, windy and all scale full force wind. Walking with God often means leaning into the wind. It is unusual to not have some resistance in our days. There will be periods of intense wind and resistance which can cause us to grow remarkably if we let it.

Seasons of “hard” can seem like each day we barely push through, we fight for every step. It is exhausting, gruelling. Could it be some days we are fighting against the Holy Spirit instead of turning and walking with Him.

When you walk with the wind, it pushes at your back making walking easier, lighter.

If life seems like you are constantly pushing, ask yourself if you are fighting the wind, the Holy Spirit. Perhaps He is not asking you to travel that way, that hard, or in that direction. Perhaps you need to ease up, turn around and walk with Him.

Yes there will continue to be resistance training to help us grow, but often we set out with our own unreasonable goals and plans and expect God to bless them. We get exhausted and defeated until we realize we have simply been pushing against the wind not walking with it.
