The Past is the Past

Kanye West has a new album out that was released on Oct 25. If you know Kanye, maybe you’re thinking, oh great…sarcastically.

Well this album is different, in a sense that its titled “Jesus is King.” In the past Kanye has referred to God before, he even has a song called “I Am a God.” He has some music out there that is cruder than most and is downright offensive at best. This album is different though. If you listen to it, it’s a gospel rap album. If you pay attention to this man and who he has become these days, you will see that the Holy Spirit has been working in him. He is living for God and he has been humbled enough to put out an album called “Jesus Is King.” I personally believe this in itself is a miracle, it goes to show you just what can happen when you seek God.

This man lived a life that so many people these days are seeking, money, cars, mansion, living the life of a star. But he obviously had a void inside that he could not fill, he had “it all” depending on who you ask. Yet he ended up having a breakdown and he allowed God in to fix what needed to be fixed. I’m sure he’s not perfect, but none of us are, that’s why we need God to keep us in line. This is just one example of what God can do if you let Him in.

What so many people don’t realize these days is that God is that void that they are trying to fill. That empty spot that is constantly desiring something. It’s unfortunate that people don’t know what the solution is to fix that emptiness. Instead they get caught up in worldly desires and pleasures. Some people will still judge Kanye by his past unfortunately, but God won't. God has made all things new and He is now using Kanye to show spread the truth!

One day I was walking with my dog in a nearby park, as per usual. As I was walking, I kept hearing look back, I looked back three times in total and there was nothing there each time. I finally said out loud “there’s nothing there!”

Then God said “Exactly!”

Don’t focus on what you’ve done in the past or what someone has done to you in the past or whatever it is that has already happened. Maybe it’s even someone else’s past bothering you, could be a spouse, a friend or a family member. Move on from it, use it as a lesson if that’s what it is, or be thankful that it happened and you made it to the other side. The past made you who you are today, do not dwell on it or feel shame about it, that will not help anything.

This was an eye opening encounter for me, as it now makes me check myself whenever my mind starts to go backwards. Our past defines us in a way because our life experiences are what make us into who we are today. Take whatever it is that has made you stronger and use it wherever you can. God doesn’t focus on your past, so why should you. Just live for today and thank God he has brought you to where you are and that you are still alive. Humble yourself and know that whatever happened before is not that important, there are too many things happening today that are more important than what happened yesterday. God loves you and He is just happy to have His son or daughter back from wherever they went along the way. We must remember that and thank Him every day for the life He has provided for us today, whatever it looks like.

Isaiah 43:18-19 NLT

"But forget all that – it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?

I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland."
