Road Trip Chronicles - The Open Road

I am an adventurous type. I love to travel and discover new places. I am blessed to be able to do this often throughout the year. As winter is near ending, I am comtemplating the "where to's" in front of me. New year, new travel - Scotland was so "last year".

I imagine many families are planning their Spring Vactions holidays right now. It is not far away.

I have no particular place picked this year, it is confusing, what to do, where to go. Now I am all set to go somewhere but there are always things to consider: money - Scotland was expensive, almost double our money. USA - maybe not the best choice at the moment. Hmmmmm something will catch my eye.

I think God loves us to discover new things about His creation and I, as His child, love to find them it is like a huge treasure hunt. Taking to the open road this spring or summer – we need to remember to pack our sense of anticipation and blessing with us.

I know for me, it is always the things that seems to go wrong or not planned that I usually have the most fun with in my stories back at home. I will never forget the donkeys of Santorini when we got dropped off in the wrong place, nor the smell of my sandals afterwards after having to walk through donkey doo (quickly deposed of). But what a fun story.

Anticipate that God has something planned for you to find along the journey – it is not the destination He purposed for you, rather the entire journey. Think of your trip as a circle – the whole trip is the complete circle, not just the destination. Flying these days can be a true adventure in itself. If you get bumped, booted off or stuck in an airport, adventures begin to happen. These all count as part of the circle journey. From Gods’ perspective the whole circle is His plan for you, the strangers at the airport, on the plane, at the restaurant, embrace your trip with this fact in mind – Gods’ Blessing will be on the entire trip, even the packing and unpacking.

Sense of Blessing – expect to be blessed as you change your attitude to include the entire trip not simply the destination.

How I remember our family getting into the family vehicle snapping and cranky as we headed out to start our wonderful “bonding” time together. Tempers run high and nerves are frayed as we try to make sure we have “everything” we need of course there was always a "time" looming over our head that we were trying to leave by. We were doing car trips, not airplane journeys. Dad was a box ticker and we needed to be on time to tick that box! Maybe for you and your family allow this part of the trip in your mind, into your travel circle and know that it too is a part of the journey – expect God to bless this part as well, take a deep breath and continue….

For me - traveling is like the game hide and seek just on a bigger level. When I travel I expect to “find” some really cool things God has made on the way from packing to driving to flying or cruising and then the unpacking – the complete journey.

Adventures happen everyday, but in travelling, I think they simply happen more!
