“And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.” Genesis 1:3
God said.
If you are a creationist, you hold to the view that God spoke and the world came into being. Imagine it, you speak and things happen. God with His words created something (the world), out of nothing, His words had authority and power.
God created the world and then He created man, “in His image.” Genesis 1:27.
If we are made in God’s image, we too then have the ability to speak and make things happen.
What can we create with our words?
“Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity. We can choose to use this force constructively with words of encouragement, or destructively using words of despair. Words have energy and power with the ability to help, to heal, to hinder, to hurt, to harm, to humiliate and to humble.” Dec 15, 2014 The Huffington Post
Some of us might think that “words” are just that, thoughts that emerge from our mouths and blow out into the air to be lost forever. Words are anything but, as soon as words leave our lips we breathe life into them, we give them power.
The above quote states: “Words are singularly the most powerful force available to humanity” and yet we use them so casually and carelessly. Our words can be like an elevator (John Maxwell) – they can lift people up or take people down. What would people say about your words?
Our words, because they create in the supernatural, need to be weighed before they are spoken. I can bless a situation or I can curse it – all with the same mouth.
Everything starts with words: break-ups, break downs, wars, rumors. Words can kill: relationships, families, companies, reputations, spirits and dreams.
If I were to ask you about someone that you have a hard time being around or forgiving, usually (not always) you would recall their words.
The Bible talks a lot about word curses and word blessings. God Himself says over and over – I will Bless or I will Curse – all by words. It was a common thing in the Bible for parents to speak a Blessing over their children. These Blessings were the direction a child’s life would take – all by the power of words.
Our words can build up or tear down, all in a matter of seconds. We cannot take back our words, once spoken they are out there for all forces to hear. Have you ever declared, “I will never……” , “I will always….” “You never…” or “You always…” that my friend is a spoken vow.
Vows in the supernatural have meaning, God will not cross the line of a vow. So if you said, “I will never have enough money,” you just set that as the course of your life. God will not cross your vow. “My husband always…..” yes if you declare this, he probably will. “My kids never respect me,” this is a vow, do not speak it into existence.
“I hate myself.” Unfortunately you have set yourself up for self-esteem issues until you declare that vow, null and void.
Your words are how you will live your life. Please hear me on this, it is not a little matter. Your words can set your destiny and the destiny of others.
Think of it, words such as: slutty, dumb, stupid, fat, ugly, awkward, silly, even as we read these, we have images in our mind, and all have the ability to affect the people who had these words spoken over them. People hear them and believe them about themselves. These are called “word curses”. God can break the power of a word curse off of your life.
Why not try these words instead of the above and breathe some life into others: vivacious, encourager, smart, brilliant, toned, muscular, confident, or joyous, these speak to a person but in a positive tone.
Ever wonder why satan in the garden of Eden, simply started a conversation with Eve. He simply played with the words, “Did God really say?” (Genesis 3:1) and the end result was disastrous for the entire world.
Such a serious consequence for simply a few words.
What about our words that really do not matter, for instance joking. If our words have power for positive or negative then it would stand to reason that coarse or crude words and joking would only attract this same kind of behavior into your world.
The Bible says, “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29)
The Bible is clear – Do Not. It is for our own good – if you do not wish to attract the bad behaviours, do not talk about it, do not joke about it, take your words seriously.
I am appalled at all the women out there who are prepared to walk around with the word "B...." stamped on their t-shirts. I mean really - that is your life label?
Do not compromise, keep your words in alignment with God: Positive, encouraging, building others up. If you have spoken negative words over others or even yourself, go to God and ask Him to cancel any word curses spoken over you or by you. For a vow, tell God you wish to break it and ask Him to cancel those words over your life or the lives of others.
You do not have to stay stuck in negativity, if your words determine your life – then today choose joy, choose blessing, choose life.
My dear friend Martha, who will be 90 this year, when I ask her, “how are you?” She always replies, “I am blessed.” She declares it almost daily and if I had to give you a name of someone who is truly blessed – it is her.
Why not give it a try? What have you got to lose? Today when someone asks how you are, say “I am blessed.” Give yourself a pep talk in the car, “I am special to God.” “I am God’s friend.” “I am so valuable that Jesus died for me.” "I am thankful." "I will bring change to my world"
Start to build yourself up and then start to build up the others around you – life is negative enough, let us be the start to adding life and energy to the world around us.
Go give someone some life today with the power of your words.
